The inaugural Tour of Peninsular has come to an end with Kinan Cycling Team’s Marcos Garcia Fernandez securing a well deserved overall win after 5 stages of cycling.
The fifth and final stage from Kuala Lipis to Wangsa Walk, with a recorded distance of 151.4km was won by Team Sapura Cycling’s Christian Raileanu in 3:19:12s, followed by Mohammedesmaeil Chaichiraghimi from Foolad Mobarakeh Sepahan cycling team and Malaysia’s own Sofian Nabil Omar coming in second and third respectively.
Garcia came in 35th for the final stage of the race, 14 seconds behind Raileanu, but his 3 minutes and 2 seconds lead from the previous stages remained unscathed and helped secure him as the first ever winner of the Tour de Peninsular.
“Of course I am very happy to win this tour, especially as this is the first year of the race (ToP).I love racing in Malaysia because the people are nice and they always support us,” said Garcia. “I don’t make the decision but if the team comes back to race in ToP again next year I will definitely come because this place is special to me”
Congratulations once again to Marcos Garcia Fernandez as well as to other riders who cycled hard to complete the event.
